CIL MT 2026 Exam Pattern
The Coal India Management Trainee examination was conducted in a single three-hour sitting. The test contained two papers carrying 100 marks each.

Paper I was common for all candidates. Paper II differed according to the discipline selected in the application form.
Since both papers carry equal marks, candidates must perform well in aptitude as well as professional knowledge. A high technical score cannot compensate for failing to clear the minimum qualifying marks in Paper I.
Marking Scheme Used in the Calculator

CIL MT Category-Wise Qualifying Marks
Coal India has prescribed separate qualifying marks for Paper I and Paper II. Candidates must clear the required marks in both papers.

There is no combined qualifying mark mentioned separately in the notification. However, clearing the minimum marks does not guarantee selection. CIL will prepare separate discipline-wise and category-wise merit cut-offs based on the available vacancies and candidate performance.
For example, a General candidate scoring 75 marks in Paper I but only 39 marks in Paper II will not qualify because the required minimum is 40 marks in each paper.

CIL MT 2026 Selection Process
The selection process includes:

No interview will be conducted. According to the notification, the final merit panel will be prepared using the marks obtained in the CBT only.

CIL MT Salary and Training Period
Selected candidates will join as Management Trainees in the E-1 grade with a pay scale of ₹60,000 to ₹1,80,000. During the training period, they will receive an initial basic pay of ₹60,000 per month.
The training and probation period is one year. After its successful completion, the candidate will be confirmed as an Officer in the respective discipline.
